What are Agent Limits?

When an agent is set up with governance controls, GoMarble enforces a policy that defines exactly what the agent is allowed to do. This policy has three components:

  • Allowed actions — the specific operations the agent is permitted to perform (for example, adjusting bids, pausing ads, creating campaigns).

  • Budget cap — the maximum spend the agent can authorize without human review.

  • Approval mode — whether the agent can act autonomously or must wait for a human to approve each action.

Previously these settings could only be configured during the initial agent creation wizard. You can now view and edit them at any time from the agent detail screen.

Viewing the Agent Limits Panel

  1. Open the Agents section from the main navigation.

  2. Click on the agent you want to review.

  3. On the agent detail screen, locate the Agent limits panel. It shows the policy currently in force for that agent.

Editing a Governance Policy

  1. Inside the Agent limits panel, click Edit (or the inline edit control).

  2. Adjust the allowed actions, budget cap, or approval mode as needed.

  3. Click Save to apply the updated policy.

Important: Allowed actions cannot be empty

You must select at least one allowed action before saving. If all actions are removed, the editor will display an inline error and the Save button will remain disabled. This prevents accidentally publishing a policy that blocks the agent from doing anything at all.

Duplicating a Governed Agent

If your team plan includes the agent-governance entitlement, you can duplicate a governed agent and the copy will inherit the same policy restrictions. If your plan does not include agent governance, duplicating a governed agent is blocked. This prevents a situation where the duplicate would be published without any of the original agent's restrictions in place.

If you see a message that duplication is unavailable, your plan does not include agent governance. An upgrade prompt will appear — follow the on-screen instructions to upgrade your plan, or contact your account administrator to confirm whether agent governance can be added to your current plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I remove all governance controls from an agent?

You can change allowed actions, budget caps, and approval mode, but you cannot save a policy with zero allowed actions. If you want to give an agent broader permissions, add the relevant actions rather than clearing the list entirely.

What does the Agent Limits editor show if my plan does not include agent governance?

If your team is not entitled to agent governance, the Agent Limits editor displays the agent's actual current state: limits are off and all actions are allowed. This accurately reflects what is saved for the agent — no restrictions are ever applied to un-entitled teams. An upgrade prompt is shown so you can add governance controls to your plan. Previously, the editor incorrectly displayed a locked preview with pre-checked restrictions that were not actually in effect.

Do changes to the policy take effect immediately?

Yes. Once you save an updated policy, the new limits apply to all subsequent actions the agent takes.

Who can edit an agent's governance policy?

Any team member with permission to manage agents can view and edit the Agent limits panel.
